To prepare for our Pioneer unit, Mrs. Reeves and I mixed up our classes for six mini lessons, on topics like how to pack a wagon, careers pioneers might've had, and which plants are safe to eat.
Of course, the last lesson was:
When kids came back to school on Monday, April 25th, the desks had been magically transformed into wagons!
On April 26th, we took our walking pioneer field trip: 3+ miles of pulling wagons, carrying lunches, and walking around Lake Washington!
We would stop occasionally for Mrs. Reeves to show us some of the edible plants along the way!
What a beautiful place to stop and have lunch!
We also ran into some wildlife--a real lizard (or snake with legs, depending which third grader you ask...)
Now we're ready to go on the trail!
